MCES is now more than fifty years old but its main building is much older. Building 50 is now well into its eighties. It is home to our crisis center, EMS program, and inpatient unit.

Since we took occupancy in 1988, we have done as much as we can to make a structure and layout from another era of mental health care optimally serve our patients with today’s treatment modalities. At the same time, we try to make the best use possible of the building’s features.
One of these is a large internal courtyard that offers outdoor recreation to patients whenever weather permits. Patients can play volleyball, shoot hoops, or just enjoy the sunshine. For a few years, the Allied Therapy Department maintained a patient vegetable garden along the courtyard’s perimeter.
The area also serves as a special events venue. It has hosted evening concerts for patients including one featuring a brigade of bagpipers. It is also the site of an annual patient/staff barbeque.
